Online Scent Detection Course is a continuous, self-paced online course crafted to meet each handler-dog team’s unique goals and needs. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or advancing your skills, this course is designed to support your progress with personalized instruction, a collaborative learning community, and flexible training topics tailored to your interests. 

 

Who is this course for?

• Professionals working with detection dogs looking to improve their skills as a dog team.
• Experienced hobbyists or those aspiring to become professional scent detection dog teams who want to improve their knowledge and have continuous coaching.
• Those with basic knowledge of dog training in general who are interested in starting their journey to scent detection with their dog.

 

Requirements for the Course

• Easily motivated dog to work with.
• Basic knowledge of reward-based training techniques.
• Motivation to learn and train, with weekly time for practice.
• Ability to record and upload training videos for personalized online feedback (phone quality is adequate).
• Access to our course platform Moodle is by phone or other device.

 

Course Structure

On this platform, you’ll join a small cohort of no more than 12 handlers. This small-group format allows you to learn both independently and through observing and interacting with other students’ training progress and challenges. You’ll benefit from the guidance of an experienced scent detection trainer while also engaging in supportive group discussions and shared feedback sessions.

• Individualized Learning Path: Each student works on the scent detection skills that align with their objectives. Choose from pre-designed topics or suggest new areas of study.

• Collaborative Learning Community: Join a maximum of 12 students in a learning group, sharing insights, observations, and support as you progress together. Watching and discussing others’ training can provide additional insights and learning.

• Flexible Engagement: You can commit to as little as one month at a time, with options to pause training at the end of any billing cycle and resume later, making this course adaptable to your schedule.

• Personalized Feedback: Post your training videos to the platform and receive regular, detailed feedback from the instructor, tailored specifically to help you overcome challenges and refine your technique. Each handler proceeds at their own pace, based on their starting skills and personal goals.

• Monthly Live Sessions: Participate in monthly online group meetings, where you’ll explore advanced scent detection topics, ask questions, and gain insights from both the instructor and fellow students.

 

Each handler has the opportunity to focus on specific areas relevant to their goals, selecting from a variety of preset scent training topics on the course platform or proposing new topics of interest. You can move through topics at your own pace, set personal goals, and advance based on your and your dog’s unique abilities.

Each participant has the freedom to choose the specific scent or scents they wish to work with throughout the course. Whether you’re training with general practice scents or focusing on a specific target odor, the course materials and feedback are tailored to support your unique selection. This flexibility allows handlers to work with familiar scents, explore new target odours, or prepare for specialized scent detection needs, making the training relevant to both foundational and advanced applications.

 

Optional Course Certification

For those who wish to gain formal recognition for their progress, this course offers an optional certification path. Participants may choose to complete the assignments within each module, progressing through exercises and assessments that align with the skill levels of each topic. By successfully completing all required tasks and receiving satisfactory evaluations on each section, participants are eligible for certification assessments that match their skill level and focus area.

This certification option allows students to demonstrate their proficiency in scent detection at their own pace, building skills within distinct areas such as foundational scent identification, environmental adaptability, or advanced problem-solving. Certification assessments are designed to evaluate each handler-dog team based on their chosen focus areas and progression through the course modules. 

Achieving certification not only validates the knowledge and skills developed through the course but also serves as a professional milestone in your scent detection journey.

Pricing Options

This course is available on a flexible payment basis, with options for monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual payments. Choose the plan that best fits your needs:

• Monthly Plan: 105€ per month (equivalent to one private training session).
• 3-Month Plan: 299€ (100€/month).
• 6-Month Plan: 567€ (94.50€/month).

 

Each plan provides access to all course materials, feedback, and group sessions for the duration selected. Students may continue for as long as desired.

Private Instruction Option

For those interested in a fully private learning experience, you may choose one-on-one instruction, which includes a 15-minute personal online coaching session each month.

Note: Private students also have access to the monthly group session with other handlers.

• Monthly Plan: 126€ per month (equivalent to one private training session).
• 3-Month Plan: 359€ (120€/month).
• 6-Month Plan: 680€ (113,4€/month).
